Mental Illness does not define someone! It's nothing more than a diagnosis. Bipolar Disorder is an illness I have; it in no way defines who I am! There are so many things in my life that define me; Bipolar is not one of them! There is a huge stigma that society attaches to mental illness. For someone to feel ashamed of an illness they have due to society’s misconceptions is in no way acceptable. I have Bipolar Disorder not I am Bipolar Disorder! It is an illness I have, it is not who I am. I say this all the time and correct people all the time.
