Mental Illness does not define someone! It's nothing more than a diagnosis. Bipolar Disorder is an illness I have; it in no way defines who I am! There are so many things in my life that define me; Bipolar is not one of them! There is a huge stigma that society attaches to mental illness. For someone to feel ashamed of an illness they have due to society’s misconceptions is in no way acceptable. Read about my own personal experiences with Bipolar Disorder and join me in KISSING STIGMA GOODBYE!

Today was such a cool day at work for me. I have a client who I was having a hard time breaking down the walls with. I know that this client loves sports, especially basketball. So I thought, why not use a game of basketball one or two times a week as a therapeutic intervention to begin to break the barriers and build the trust. Well I did just that today. I was able to go to target over the weekend with a gift card donated to my agency to get a basketball and a reusable water bottle for him. Today we walked to the basketball courts a couple blocks away from the office and spent an hour playing basketball, all the while I was building trust and rapport with him. It was so much fun for both of us and needless to say very therapeutic for him. We have scheduled to play every Wednesday and Friday morning from now on. I couldn't be more excited to have been able to find something he loves to build a non traditional intervention with him! It was so uplifting for me and for him as well!
